My wonderful husband gave me a sewing machine for my last birthday. I have yet to use it. When I was looking thru some crafty blogs I stumbled upon this
one. I have always liked minky blankets. When I saw how easy this could be I wanted to do one right a way! My cute Godson's first birthday is coming up in October and this would be a perfect gift!
(for those who don't know he is my nieces Olga's little boy and his name is Nickolai, pic on right) SO next day I went to Jo Ann's and picked out some fabric. Since this was my first time doing anything with sewing without my mom's help I had no idea where to begin. To make sure what size I wanted I measured one of Sara's bigger quilts and went with that.

| This is the fabric that I chose (with Sara's help and approval) The fabric was on sale for 40% off and so was the minky fabric..I thought. Who knew that they have so many names for all the fabrics this kind, soft and cuddly, soft and plushy and etc. So the minky was not on sale argh. I bought a yard of each (14.99 for minky way to much! and 3.99 for the soccer ball fabric yaya!; the padding was 8.99 and thread for 50%off 1.50= around $33. |

| I had extra fabric because the minky and the soccer fabric were different sizes. I decided to do a trial run first before doing the BIG one. I heard that the minky stretches a lot so was kind of worried about that. Glad I did the trial run because that gave me some tips for the bigger blanket. For example: had the stiches a bit bigger from 3.5-2.5 to 4.0-4.0 and that really helped on not streching the minky out so much. |

Some things you just learn the hard way. I had to take some stitches out (twice) because the minky stretched so much it looked bad at the end. It was obvious where it stretched and was more wrinkly. I finally realized to start from the middle and work it from the middle and out by little sections and it turned out great!
For the binding I did it different than what it said in the instructions. I looked at one of my mom's blankets that she made for Sara and it looked way better and easier to do her way. |

I think it looks pretty good and for doing it for the very first time it turned out awesome. This whole project took me 2 days from start to finish. Not to bad for a first timer:) Looking forward to doing more projects on my new sewing machine but will have to wait till there are some good sales on the fabric!
